GANDHI
ASHRAM RECONSTRUCTION TRUST,
led by veteran Gandhian, Nirmala Deshpande (Didi), is a
unique experiment in reviving the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi
and help in reconstructing Gandhian institutions to be self
sustaining with the larger view of preserving the ideals of
the Mahatma.
We want to
create new Gandhis (i.e. original thinkers) who can think and
work for the good society independently. Our goal is the
discovery and promotion of the processes by which people can
learn to develop discriminative wisdom and see and act upon
the the truth they discover for themselves.
Our task is to
take up, not the history of Gandhi but rather the processes
of Gandhi. Gandhi was a living experiment in awareness that
touched and awakened what was good and noble in an oppressed
society and inspired them to do what had never been done by
any people in history, which was to take on and defeat the
strongest nation on earth with truth. Nirmala Deshpande
rightly sees that something needs to be done now and wants
to fan the flame of inspiration that burned in Gandhi and to
inspire the next generation.
The Gandhi Ashram
Reconstruction Trust has initiated its first project at the
20 acre campus of Harijan Sevak Sangh at Kingsway Camp,
Delhi to help creating an International Peace Center with
teaching, conference and retreat facilities for propagating
Human Values of non-violence, interfaith harmony and peace.
To foster social and spiritual synergies, support practices
that will promote a sustainable future for humanity. Leading
this initiative Nirmala Deshpande is one of the very rare
individual who is untiringly working towards peace between
nations, communities and religions. Her determination and
strong will has helped people see beyond their own caste,
creed, religion and country.
Let us all help create a more
harmonious society with greater religious tolerance and
understanding. The very sustenance on our multi religious
social fabric depends upon people with a vision. We need to
reinterpret the values set forth by Gandhiji in today's
context and revitalise the nation and its youth to adopt
them.
Help us in building an
International Community of peace Workers who will help heal
people, communities, religions, nations torn by hatred,
mistrust and communal strife .
In a world on the threshold of a
nuclear flashpoint we must keep the flame of hope and
positivism alive by rediscovering the Gandhi within
ourselves.
Help us empower the very few people
left alive who worked alongside with Gandhiji and still live
by his ideals.
