About Dr. G Muniratnam

 
 

Dr. G. Muniratnam has been rendering services in the field of disabled welfare with a special focus on the rehabilitation of destitute, handicapped and mentally retarded children and their families in the backward regions of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Orissa with dedication, devotion and commitment.

Born in peasant family of Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh on January 06, 1936, Dr. Muniratnam has inspired with the socioeconomic conditions prevailing in the pre-independent India and the peasant background compelled him to terminate his education after 11 years of schooling. An undaunted for the socioeconomic compulsion, he continued his education in the large school of society. Thousands of children like him had to abandon education or could not offer to go to school due to adverse socioeconomic condition prevailing in the society. Therefore, under the guidance of nationalist thinkers and patriots like Prof. N.G. Ranga, he started social service activities.

To his credit, he has been conferred with various recognitions by the Government and other institutions for his rich contribution for the wellbeing of the children, women of those particularly, disadvantaged sections. He is the recipient of many awards among few are the Indira Gandhi National Award and the gem of India Award. He has also received prestigious awards from He is the founder Member and Hon. General Secretary Rashtriya Seva Samti, since 1981 a voluntary service organisation working for the welfare of the weaker sections in general and women,  children, physically handicapped and the aged in particular. He is recently also a Member of the  Management Board of Harijan Sevak Sangh, New Delhi and also on the Advisory Board, National Council and Education Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi.
