Ussd (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data)
USSD refers to Unstructured Supplementary Service Data. It is a technology that is exclusive for GSM cell phones and enables high-level and quick communication between GSM cell phones and the service provider’s computers. Up to 182 characters can be delivered at a time through USSD.
Unlike SMS, USSD communications occur during a specific session only. Helps a user by acting as a “trigger” for an application thereby establishing quick communication between the application and the user.
There are some services, which widely accept and support USSD. Mobile chatting, making and enquiry for prepaid balance, mobile banking and all such services that need an interaction between a user and application. The operators are benefited by USSD as it leads to a quicker implementation of newly introduced services. It is also beneficial for subscribers or customers because service requests are processed quickly by USSD.
